Do the following steps to configure a connection.

Create a new configuration

To create a new driver configuration:

  1. Double-click the entry Fieldbus Configuration in the node of the Workbench Studio Workspace.
    Optional you can click on the symbol Open Fieldbus Configuration in the menu bar.
    The IO Drivers view will be opened.
  2. Select the entry Insert Configuration....in the Insert menu bar.
    Optional you can use the Insert Configuration symbol in the vertical toolbar of the IO Drivers view too.
    The Add Configuration dialog will be opened.
  3. The available drivers are displayed in a grouped view. Expand a group by single clicking the arrow symbol or by double-clicking the group name. The connections included in the group will be listed. A quick information about the selected driver will be displayed in the Driver information area of this dialog.
    Hint: All available drivers are listed alphabetically in the node All.
  4. Optional: You can rename your connection in the Driver name input field. Per default the pre-defined connection name is already given.
  5. Select the desired driver and confirm by clicking the OK button.
    The selected driver is available in the IO Drivers view.
    Hint: Some drivers can be configured with the help of a Wizard. In this case the first dialog of the Wizard opens and guides you step by step. This configuration can be modified afterwards by adapting the parameters.

Insert Master/Port

To insert a new Master/Port:

  1. Select the entry Insert Master/Port... in the Insert menu bar.
    Optional you can use the Insert Master/Port symbol in the vertical toolbar of the IO Drivers view.
    The dialog for the configuration of the Master or Port will be opened.
  2. Configure the settings and confirm by clicking the OK button.
    The Master/Port is available in the IO Drivers view now.

info Information

Some drivers have a pre-defined Master/Port configuration, e.g. the OPC UA Server. This predefined configuration will be created during driver creation. In this case you can adapt the existing Master/Port configuration.

Insert Slave/Data Block

To insert a Slave/Data Block:

  1. Select the Master/Port in the IO Drivers view via mouseclick.
    The Insert Slave/Data Block symbol in the vertical toolbar will be enabled.
  2. Select the menu bar entry Insert Slave/Data Block.... in the Insert menu bar.
    Optional you can use the Insert Slave/Data Block symbol in the vertical toolbar of the IO Drivers view too.
    The dialog for the configuration of a slave or a datablock will be opened.
  3. Configure the settings and confirm by clicking the OK button.
    The Slave/Data Block is now available in the IO Drivers view.

info Information

If a Slave/Datablock is not provided for the connection, the menu entry and the symbol for adding a Slave/Datablock are unavailable and grayed out.

Insert Variable(s)

To insert a variable:

  1. Select the Slave/Data Block in the IO Drivers view via mouseclick.
    The Insert variable symbol in the vertical toolbar will be enabled.
  2. Click the Insert Variable symbol.
    The dialog for variable handling and configuration will be opened.
  3. Assign variables by clicking the ??? character in the Symbol option field. This will open a combobox for selecting existing or creating new variables.
    Hint: You can create a new variable by typing a new variable name.
  4. Define the desired settings.
  5. Click on OK.
    The variable is now available in the IO Drivers view.
